SUN RESPONSIBLE FOR UNTIMELY DEMISE

Although the sun is responsible for innumerable good thing in life, it can be very detrimental to two-dimensional art.  Hanging Wall art in direct sun light can alter and fade the colors to the extent that it is no longer the same piece of art that you originally purchased.  It can also deteriorate paper or canvas over time.  Extremely bright artificial light can also have negative effects on artwork, so use care in placing that wonderful treasure you’ve brought home.

ART POLICE CAPTURE CULPRIT IN HANGING

Hanging art work too high or too low can be disastrous.  The joy and beauty of the art you have just purchased can be totally lost if it is improperly hung. To be seen and appreciated properly, the center of the artwork needs to be at eye level.  Since there are so many people of different heights, it is logical to take the average height as the norm.  Groupings can be hung using the same principle with the center of the grouping at eye level... This is only a rule of thumb, you understand.  Some very interesting and creative things have happened by not following the rules.

Paper cutouts save Sanity

Cutout pieces of paper or cardboard the shape and size of the artwork you want to hang can save your sanity.  At least it can preserve your patience.  Tape the cutout to the wall where you think you want it to hang and then study it from several angles to find out if it indeed fits in the space well.  It saves you from nailing extra nail holes if it doesn’t fit the space properly.  This technique is also particularly helpful when placing a grouping together. Think of all those extra nail holes!!

Do not touch...

Don’t you just hate to be told that? In the case of your artwork under glass, however, that’s a very good rule.  Art work under glass should never actually touch the glass. Trust me, irreparable damage can occur to your art without a mat to protect it. Mats add an extra layer of space between the art and the glass so that they DO NOT TOUCH.
